If you are purchasing CBD oil for your dog, you need to store it correctly in order to maintain its quality and extend its shelf life for as long as possible. What is the appropriate way to store CBD oil?
According to one CBD oil manufacturer, “Light, heat, and air exposure all play a part in the breakdown of natural cannabinoids like CBD, so it is important to defend against them.”
This is pretty much the rule with any type of oil-based product. That means that in order to preserve the effectiveness of your dog’s CBD oil, you need to store it in a cool, dark location. It needs to be tightly sealed so that air exposure will not hasten the breakdown of nutritious compounds which it contains.
This is true for any CBD oil, including CBD oil products which you purchase for yourself and other members of your family. If you buy separate CBD oils for other pets (like cats or horses), these oils also need to be stored in the same manner.
The manufacturer which I just linked to recommends you refrigerate CBD oil when possible. Just as your refrigerator helps to extend the shelf life of your foods and beverages, it can do the same for CBD oil.
If, for whatever reason, you do not wish to use your fridge or do not have space in your fridge, you will need to choose another location which is cool and dark. Some good options might include:
- A medicine cabinet.
- A cabinet in your kitchen.
- A cabinet in your bathroom.
- A cabinet anywhere else in your home.
- A shelf in your basement.
The most important thing is to keep CBD oil away from heat and light sources. So do not store your dog’s CBD near your oven or cooktop. Do not leave it laying out where it will be directly exposed to sunlight, especially next to a closed window where heat will build up.
Now that you’ve got your CBD Oil, do you wonder if your dog can become addicted to it? Wonder no more my friend!
If the CBD oil you purchase is stored in a clear bottle, you might want to consider replacing that with an amber or blue bottle which blocks out more light. These types of bottles are typically used to preserve essential oils, and should do a great job preserving CBD oil as well.
What if you need to take your dog’s CBD oil with you on a trip? Ideally, you should keep it in some sort of bag or container which blocks out light. Try not to leave it in the car where it would be exposed to high levels of heat.
That is pretty much all there is to it. Storing CBD oil is very much like storing any other type of oil-based product that you want to preserve and enjoy for as long as possible. So long as it is in a cool, dark place, it should continue to provide its excellent health benefits for your dog for a long time to come.
Now that you know where to store your CBD, do you have any other questions?
